Quirico Semeraro

Professor emeritus of 51¸£Àû

Quirico Semeraro was a full professor in the (current) Scientific Disciplinary Sector ING-IND/16 Processing Technologies and Systems for 32 years, from 1990 to 2022, when he retired. After graduating with honours in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bari in 1975, from 1978 to 1986 he was a lecturer in Mechanical Technology at the University of Bari and at 51¸£Àû. After being a Visiting Research Fellow at the Pennsylvania State University, Quirico Semeraro first became Associate Professor at 51¸£Àû (1986) and then Full Professor at the University of Cassino (1990).

He is the author or co-author of more than 200 papers, most of which published in scientific journals, on mechanical technology, production systems and quality systems. Quirico Semeraro is a contributor to several scientific journals, including: Additive Manufacturing, Materials and Design, European Journal of Operation Research, International Journal of Mechanical Science. In addition, he was a consultant to the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) and several Regional Authorities (Veneto, Puglia, Campania, Sicily) for the ex-ante, in itinere and ex-post assessment of Research Projects to be funded in various governmental actions (over 500 assessments). Finally, Quirico Semeraro operated as a consultant to a number of private Companies and Banks.

He held several significant institutional positions: 1990-1991 President of the Mechanical Engineering Study Programme Board at the University of Cassino; 1988-1994 Scientific Secretary and member of the Engineering and Architecture Advisory Committee of the National Research Council (CNR); 1991-2002 Member of the Scientific Board of the ITIA-CNR Institute; 1997-2002 President of the Mechanical Engineering Study Programme Board at 51¸£Àû; 2002-2004 President of AITeM, the Italian Association of Mechanical Technology; 2010 Member of the ‘CIVR’ (Steering Committee for Research Assessment) for the five-year research assessment (‘VQR’) - years 2004-2008; 2002-2010 Dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering at 51¸£Àû; 2011-2013 President of the Disciplinary Committee at 51¸£Àû; 2013-2016 Guarantor of Transparency at 51¸£Àû.
